We had an exciting event opportunity last week for our current and admitted students in the Chicago area, a Lunch and Learn with Illinois Congresswoman Cheri Bustos. The event was hosted by the Harris groups Women in Public Policy and The Project on Political Reform and focused on a variety of topics including women running for office and Illinois and federal projects. Congresswoman Bustos shared her personal story of choosing to leave the private sector to run for office, and emphasized to Harris students the resources available to assist those who want to serve in office. She argued that some of the most important traits are a willingness to work hard, fight, and get results, and shared her belief in the importance of having women, people of color, and young people run for office as they are currently underrepresented. Our students asked numerous questions and the Congresswoman was generous with her time and was enthusiastic in encouraging Harris students to consider running for office.
If you would like to learn more about the student organization at Harris please email firstname.lastname@example.org. We will have an upcoming webinar with the Women in Public Policy in the coming weeks, and we think this is a great opportunity to hear from our current students on the opportunities available at Harris.
